제시 [UN2VERSE]

‘센언니’ 제시가 지난 2005년 데뷔 후 12년 만에 처음으로 ‘제시’라는 이름을 걸고 첫 번째 미니앨범을 발표한다. 이번 미니앨범 'Un2verse'에는 제시만의 강한 개성과 색채를 느낄 수 있는 곡들이 대거 포함되어 있으며 특히 힙합 뮤지션 창모와 스윙스가 이번 앨범 신곡 피처링 및 작사에 참여했다.

Gucci: 이 곡은 악플러들에 대한 선전포고가 담긴 곡이다. 파워풀한 사운드로 JESSI만의 통쾌한 한방을 이끌어내고 있다. GUCCI 브랜드에 빗대어, 순수하게 명품처럼 빛이 나는 사람은 자신을 반대하고 자신을 끌어 내기 위해 노력하는 사람들에게 부정적인 영향을 받지 않는다는 메시지를 강하게 전달하고 있다.

Gucci: The world can be a cold and bitter place. The purpose of this song is to let the haters know that their attacks don't affect me. You can rally against me and try to bring me down, but I’m too strong to be affected by your negativity because I’m GUCCI.

BOING: 일상생활에서 느끼는 행동양식에 대한 여성들의 고단함을 이야기한다. JESSI는 이 노래로써 자신의 몸을 더욱 사랑하는 당당한 여성이 되길 바라며 작업한 곡이다. 그 누구에게 어떤 모습을 보일지라도 자신감이라는 가장 섹시한 무기를 가지고 스스로 통제할 수 있다고 외쳐보자. BOING!

BOING: Women are constantly reminded how to behave and how to look to be accepted in our daily lives. We are tired of being told what to do. I wanted this song to be an anthem to all my strong ladies reminding them to love themselves and their bodies. No matter what we look like, the sexiest part of us is our confidence. You gotta let them know who’s in control . . . Boing!

걸음걸이: 현실을 바라보는 두려움과의 이야기를 독백처럼 풀어낸 가삿말로, 강해 보이는 그녀가 자신의 약한 측면을 바라보는 시선들에 대해 표현한 곡이다. 같은 목적지를 바라보지만 다른 방식으로 도달할 수 있다는 이야기를 “걸음걸이”로 비유하여 주변의 비난과 모순에 대하여 마주할 수 있는 여성이 되기를 바라고 있다. 그루브 템포와 서정적인 피아노 루프 안에서 JESSI 의 호소력 있는 목소리로 우리 여성들에게 헌정하는 곡이다.

The most important aspect of being strong is knowing how to be weak. Many times people look at me and assume that I am never scared. I am very scared, and I am very aware of reality. My fans and listeners deserve to see the true side of being a strong, independent woman in this industry. People will always question my process and look for contradictions in my walk. I dedicate this song to all my sisters who take bold strides while ignoring the naysayers to focus on the end game. We talk the talk because we can walk the walk.

SPIRIT ANIMAL: 이 트랙은 JESSI가 그녀의 모든 JEBBIES에게 이야기한다. 비가 오나 눈이 오나 그녀의 공연을 보기 위해 달려오는 그들에 대한 고마움을 표현했다. 단지 그녀의 외모나 음악이 아닌 그녀 자체를 사랑한다는 것을 알고 있으며, JESSI의 군대가 나타나면 그녀는 가장 강력한 힘이 생긴다는 것을 그들에게 항상 전하고 싶었다. JEBBIES 들만의 영혼의 상징이 되고 싶다는 JESSI의 감사함이 담긴 곡이다.

SPIRIT ANIMAL: This track is for all my JEBBIES. No matter how hectic or crazy a show can be, I can always recognize my JEBBIES. I know how many hours they stand in line, rain or shine, just to be present at shows. They remind me that I have an army of supporters and believers that got my back no matter what. I realized that my JEBBIES don’t love me only for my looks or my musicality. They look up to me because I remind them that they are powerful. I AM HONORED TO BE THAT SYMBOL FOR THEM. I’m honored to be their spirit animal.

Arrived : 이것은 JESSI의 가장 개인적인 노래이다. 가끔은 자신을 바라볼 수 있는 위치에서 나를 돌아보는 시간이 필요하다고 얘기하고 싶었다. 모든 이들의 의구심은 그녀의 원동력이 되어 쉬지 않고 달릴 수 있게 하였다. 그들에게 보란 듯이 이 자리에 오기까지의 긴 여행을 떠올리며, 그녀를 믿고 기다려 준 팬들과 함께 축하하기 위한 마음을 담아낸 미디엄 템포의 곡이다.

Arrived: This is my most personal song. Sometimes you have to remind yourself of who you are and how far you've come. As many of you know, it’s been a long journey for me. And all the while, I am making sure my fans and supporters are properly taken care of. We all need to take a moment to celebrate ourselves. They say that the best revenge is succeeding. So instead of letting the weight wear me down, I use their skepticism as fuel to reach my destination. And guess what . . . I've arrived.
