너와의 첫 만남은 나에게 여전히 생생한 기억으로 남아 있어. 너도 그럴까? 그 날 너는 솜털같이 작고 부드러운 몸으로 엄마도 아빠도 뒤로 한 채 낯선 거인들이 사는 생소한 집까지 차를 타고 왔지. 오는 내내 너는 내게 조용히 안겨 있었고, 나는 계속해서 가슴이 뛰어 주체할 수가 없었어. 혹시 너도 그랬을까?

집에 도착해 딸랑거리는 방울이 들어 있는 고무 공을 던지니 너는 곧바로 공을 향해 뛰어들었고 우리는 그런 너를 보고 깔깔 웃었지. 그 순간 네가 우리의 행복이 될 거라는 걸 어렴풋이 알았어. 너는 기꺼이 불완전했던 우리의 가족이 되어 완전한 사랑을 주었다. 우리에게 웃음을 주고 기쁨을 주었어. 영원한 우리 집 막내, 너는 우리보다 빨리 지나가는 시간 속에 살고 있지만 우리는 언제나 함께 할 거야. 이 노래를 멍이와 다른 모든 강아지들에게 바칩니다.
