싱어송라이터 오소영과 웹툰작가 김보통의 만남, 웹툰 AMANZA(아만자) OST '사막의 왕'

3집 준비를 위한 하드 트레이닝 '하루에 한 곡' 프로젝트(하루에 한곡을 만들어 노래와 연주를 녹음해서 사운드클라우드에 공유하는 프로젝트)라는 무모한 일을 벌이고 있던 오소영은 2013년 8월 8일의 곡을 쓰려다가 가사가 떠오르지 않는 난관에 봉착하게 된다.
그래서 트위터에서 가사를 모집하게 되는데 그때 1등으로 가사를 보낸 사람이 현재 레진코믹스에 AMANZA(아만자)라는 웹툰을 연재하고 있는, 그 당시만 해도 웹툰을 준비하고 있던 김보통이었다.

'사막의 왕'이라는 캐릭터에 대해 가지고 있던 이미지를 140자 이내로 최대한 빠르게 써내려가 보낸 멘션은 선착순 1등으로 당첨되어 오소영은 바로 멜로디를 붙이고 기타 편곡을 한 후 녹음을 해서 사운드클라우드에 공개하게 된다.
『사막의 왕』은 짧은 러닝타임과 기타와 노래만의 단출한 구성이지만, 쓸쓸한 사막을 떠올리게 하는 곡의 질감과 더불어 아름다운 가사와 멜로디라인은 듣는 이의 마음을 쿵 내려놓게 만드는 힘이 있다.

이번 AMANZA(아만자)의 일본출간에 맞춰 발표되는 '사막의 왕’일본어 버전은, 뮤지션이자 번역가인 Emon(에몬)이 가사의 번역과 보컬 디렉팅을 맡아주었다. 한국과 일본 출간에 이어 AMANZA가 훗날 애니메이션화 되어 더 확장된 작업을 하게 될 날을 오소영과 김보통은 고대하고 있다.

O Soyoung, who was in an attempt called ‘one song a day’ project (to write a song every day and record the song performance to share in Soundcloud), faced up a difficulty in creating a lyrics while trying to write a song for August 8, 2013. 
Then, she invited participants to offer lyrics through twitter. The first person who sent a lyrics was Kim Botong, who was preparing a web cartoon in those days and is currently publishing a series of web cartoons called ‘AMANZA(also called as ‘Gankanja’ in Japan, ‘Big See’ in America),’ in Lezhin Comics.

His mention, describing an image of the character called ‘King of the Desert’ in no more than 140 letters very quickly, was chosen by O Soyoung as the first arrival. She immediately put a melody on the lyrics, arranged a song with a guitar, and recorded the song to share in Soundcloud. 

『King of the Desert』has a simple structure in short playing time, only including guitar and vocal performance. However, this song has beautiful lyrics and melody line that sink deep into every listener's heart. 

Emon, who is working as a musician and a translator, took care of lyrics translation and vocal directing of the Japanese version of ‘King of the Desert’.
